10 Things to Actually Do This July
Hello, July!
We’re officially halfway through the year. Crazy, right?
June moved so fast I am still catching my breath. The first heat wave hit, schedules started to loosen up, and that real summer energy finally kicked in. But here is what I have been thinking about July. It is the month where you actually have to show up for summer. June is the warm-up. August is the wind-down. July is where it all has to happen.
So this month I am not just sending you motivation. I am giving you 10 things to actually do. Pick what speaks to you. Skip what does not. The point is to stop saving these things for later and actually start living the summer you keep talking about.
1. Take Yourself on a Solo Date
Not brunch with the group. Not dinner with a friend. A real date with yourself. Pick a restaurant you have been wanting to try and go alone. Bring a book or do not. Sit at the bar or get a table for one. Order what you actually want without explaining it to anyone.
Solo dates are not lonely. They are restorative. You learn things about yourself when you are not performing for anyone else.
2. Plan One Spontaneous Trip
It does not have to be far. A weekend in another city. A day trip to the coast. A drive somewhere you have never been.
3. Reach Out to Someone You Have Been Meaning to Catch Up With
You know who I am talking about. The person whose name pops into your head every few weeks and you keep saying you will text them. Text them this week. No long explanation needed.
Some of the best summer plans come from one simple message that says I miss you let us catch up.
4. Buy Yourself Something Just Because
Not because you need it. Not because it is on sale. Not because someone else told you it was worth it. Buy yourself something simply because you want it.
A piece of jewelry. A book you have been eyeing. A summer outfit that makes you feel like the version of yourself you are working toward. We spend so much time being practical. July is a good month to remember that joy is not frivolous.
5. Document This Month
Take more photos. Write things down. Save the receipts and the playlists and the screenshots. Summer always feels longer while you are in it and shorter once it is gone.
You will want to remember this July later. Make sure you give your future self something to look back on.
6. Eat Outside as Much as You Can
I do not know what it is but food just hits different outside in the summer. A picnic. Dinner on a balcony. Lunch at a sidewalk table. Even your morning coffee on the front steps. Something about being in the open air makes everything taste better.
Stop eating at your desk this month. Find a way to take your meals outside.
7. Try Something That Slightly Scares You
Go to the networking event by yourself. Take the meeting you have been postponing. Apply for the thing.
Summer has a way of making us braver. The longer days and warmer air make everything feel a little more possible. Use that energy. The version of you that exists six months from now will thank the version of you that took the risk in July.
8. Have a No Plans Day
One day this month. Maybe a Saturday. Maybe a random Tuesday. Do not schedule anything. Do not commit to anyone. Wake up with no agenda and let the day decide itself.
We are so used to optimizing our time that we forget what it feels like to have nowhere to be. Give yourself one day to just exist.
9. Try a New Way to Move Your Body
Try Pilates for the first time. Take a hot yoga class. Join a run club. Book a session with a trainer who specializes in something you have never done.
We get stuck in the same routines and our bodies stop being challenged. July is the perfect month to switch it up because the energy is already there. Even if you go once and decide it is not for you, you learned something about yourself.
10. Set One Real Goal for the Second Half of the Year
We are at the halfway point. Look back at what you wrote down in January. Be honest about what you did and what you did not do. Then write down one thing that you want to actually accomplish before December 31.
Not five things. Not ten things. One thing. The thing that if you actually pulled it off would change the trajectory of your year.
Write it somewhere you will see it every day. July is the month to recommit.
One last thing
July is not the month to wait around. It is not the month to push everything to later. The year is more than halfway over and the second half is yours to define.
Whatever you have been putting off, this is the month to start.
Hello, July. Let us make this one count.
